Black Night

Recently, the British company BAE Systems – one of the leading manufacturers of weapons – presented its vision of the future evolution of the Challenger 2.

Then, however, almost no details about the conditionally new tank were not reported. Now the edition of the Defense Blog has told, exactly what changes the main battle tank will receive.

Its name promising machine received because of the advanced features of the night battle (which, however, is now very few people will surprise). The tank will be equipped with two independent night vision systems, allowing the gunner to focus on one target, and the commander to simultaneously identify others.

This is not all. An expanded version of Black Night should receive a new Active Protection System (APS), firing striking elements towards ammunition that threatens the safety of a combat vehicle. To improve the survivability of Black Night should a new laser radiation warning system from the enemy. Improved awareness of the crew called for new cameras operating in the infrared. They are installed in the front and rear of the machine.

In addition, the Black Night tank is going to make it more energy efficient – by introducing regenerative elements that allow energy to be restored. Finally, the developers are planning to do everything to reduce the total time for preparing the crew for the battle. This will help implement the above electronics.

In general, the proposed concept resembles the American version of the modernization of Abrams tanks, within which they chose the concept of using an Active Protection System.
